Check your baggage at the door, please.
Remember Jacob Marley in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol? He had so much baggage he couldn’t escape, even in his afterlife.
In life, he didn’t realize all he was carrying; in the beyond, it haunted him mercilessly.
How much baggage did you carry into your adult life?
Heavy? You bet!
No one makes it to adulthood without some baggage. But some of us are going to pay extra for the weight of the bags we’ve got.
Much of this baggage comes from what you learned growing up – the messages you got from home, school, friends and maybe elsewhere all became the contents of your baggage.
Let Me Tell You a Story…
“Oh my gosh. Did I tell you about the time my mother…? And then there was the time when my father said…”
“Oh, I remember the test with the HUGE ‘F’ in red on top. I was humiliated; I thought I would die of embarrassment.”
Those slights, those hurts – they’re the story of your life. It’s a story you know intimately. You tell it every chance you get, to anyone who will listen, savoring each detail like a juicy morsel.
You tell it over and over again – so often you come to believe it yourself. It becomes your truth.
Or is it?
Truth or Dare
In therapy, we’ll begin unpacking your baggage, one piece at a time.
Together, we’ll look at your story. Then, you get to decide whether it’s true for you today or not.
With my support, you’ll begin to unpack your bags. You’ll decide whether holding onto your story is doing you any good, if it’s worth keeping.
You get to decide what you want to do with that other stuff, the dark things that go bump in the night.
By now I know you are SO ready to get rid of them
